You might’ve heard about how the soccer girls had lost every game they played last year, but still stood proud through it all. Last year, the soccer girls had worked hard and practiced even harder, even if they didn’t win. Their coach, Ms. Sarah, never made them feel discouraged about their losses. She always made sure they had everything they needed. Now, let’s move into the informative part.
Soccer (or futbol) is a sport that has been around for over 2,000 years. Even though the sport is so old, it’s still one of the most commonly played sports in high schools around the world. Soccer
was originally played professionally by men when it started getting popular around the world. In fact, all of the professional sports at the time were played by men. Women only started officially playing in 1995, which wasn’t that long ago at all. Now, onto positions: the positions in soccer are forward, midfielder, defender, and goalkeeper. All of these positions play an important role in a game, so important that if you didn’t have one of these positions, you wouldn’t be able to play at all.
The soccer girls of Aiken had a problem with the positions, more specifically, trouble recruiting girls for all of these positions. All of the girls playing are excellent, but they all needed practice. Either practicing after school or at home, any practice counted as something. The games were intense, fun, and inspiring. The games inspired them so much, made them want to win even more than they did before. As stated previously, the games inspired them so much that they won two games this year! On top of them winning, they were also introduced to another coach, Ms. Dani. She’s helped them out a lot and with two coaches gave us two wins of their own. Soccer season is almost over, but the girls on that team will remember this for a long time. Now that you know almost everything about this courageous team, here’s some extra information.
