As Quarter grades are approaching some people may be proud of themselves, others may feel disappointment and the majority probably doesn’t care. For those who are proud of
themselves it’s likely because they made progress or met a goal and that is something to be proud of because accomplishment does not have to be limited to A’s and B’s. As long as there’s progress you have the right to be proud of yourself.
It’s not shameful to try and fail, but to not attempt at all? This is how I define embarrassment because, more than anything else, you are failing yourself. So for those of you who made progress: stop reading, pat yourself on the back, and then come back to this, we’ll wait…. Now that we’ve taken a minute to acknowledge each other’s progress, should we talk about maintaining and or bettering the grades we find ourselves proud of now? Yes? Ok, let’s talk about it. For those of us who have A’s and B’s the sky’s the limit. The amount of knowledge you can obtain isn’t limited to
A’s and B’s so if you see an opportunity to accumulate more knowledge take it because although you may find yourself in a good position now it doesn’t hurt to prepare for later.
For those of us who do not have A’s and B’s but have tried and made progress we shouldn’t stop trying because we’ve reached our goal, we should set a new one and try as many times as it takes to meet that one until we’ve managed to get A’s and B’s as well but don’t stop there now, you have to maintain those A’s and B’s. What’s the point, given what I’ve said? What am I trying to
convey? It’s simple: you are still an educated person even if you didn’t get a perfect A’s in school; you have made progress that deserves to be acknowledged. Now, take a minute to
think about those among us who just give up, who never even attempt, or who simply believe they are incapable of comprehending anything and expect straight A’s to just happen with minimal effort. Don’t think about what other people think. If you are one of these people may I ask you a question? Isn’t this depressing to you? Are you not upset? You are destroying your own future.
While it’s true that some individuals may succeed without attending school, wouldn’t it be nice to show yourself that you are capable of succeeding as well? “If I tried and failed I tried, but if I didn’t try at all how would I know where to start to improve myself?” was the response I got from an Aiken New Tech High School student when I asked them the same question. Now, I’ll ask a different question, If someone asked you if you’ve tried this year and you could only provide an honest response, how would you respond?
