Imagine the excitement of the Friday football games turning into fear of being shot. This is the new reality for high school football games in the CPS, which had to be rescheduled to keep the star players and fans safe. A shooting sparked out at a high school football game, leaving many in fear and making what should be a fun place an unsafe environment. It is very important because it affects young students’ safety and should be brought to a lot of people’s attention. It causes harm to families and students, the violence causes fear.
These changes started happening because of danger and panic at football games, starting with the first incident North College Hill Vs. Woodward. Following this event, a student player was
found with a firearm in his locker. This information started to spread around the CPS and according to the website, WCPO.com, the Cincinnati Police encouraged CPS Athletic Directors changing Football Friday Nights to Football Saturday Mornings.
These horrific accidents were starting to occur so much and this affects the future of our new students. Gathering opinions and point of views, Harry McCall, Aiken’s Football Coach, feels it is a
big inconvenience for him and his players. Paul Brownfield, Aiken’s Athletic Director also commented on the complications of moving the games to ensure safety of the players. As our football season comes to a close, we hope things will be better in the future. This is not how we should remember our senior year.
