Every high school graduate, in my opinion, has an interesting narrative to tell. Here is mine. Here are my feelings over the years and the experiences I had while attending Aiken New Tech High School for four years. I started attending Aiken at the start of my ninth grade year, in 2022, after moving from Florida. I was somewhat anxious at first, unsure of what to expect and how my high school years would unfold. Attending Aiken was a pretty nice school, even though it wasn’t my version of the “High School Musical.” Don’t get me wrong, there are problems at every school, but Aiken wasn’t nearly as severe. I actually had a pretty pleasant ninth grade year, and I got along well with the teachers and staff.
Entering my second year, to be honest I feel like I lost myself throughout that year because I was too preoccupied with wanting to hang out with my friends and allowed them to negatively influence me, which caused me to lose sight of my priorities. I had no voice. However, by the end of the year, I had found out who I was and what I wanted to do as well as what I hoped to
become. I began putting myself in the correct frame of mind.
Despite my mistakes from the previous year, I made the most of my junior year by making improvements. I had a good start to the year and was attentive in class. Then, knowing that college was
something I wanted to experience, I began researching it. In the process, I also discovered that I wanted to earn a real estate degree and a BSN in nursing. I began contacting and establishing connections with individuals in my community who worked in the professions I wanted to pursue later in my junior year. I also began helping others in need by volunteering outside of school.
I’m in my final year of high school right now. And in the last few years, I have learned and accomplished a lot. I continue to put a lot of effort and hard work into whatever I do. I’m still putting a lot of effort into realizing my dreams. All that matters is that I feel like I’ve come a long way from where I started. My current multiple college acceptances demonstrate that you can always grow and improve yourself, regardless of how you begin in any given circumstance. Even though my year isn’t quite over, I’ve learnt a lot and continue to grow. I hope this inspires everyone to keep going and try their best.
