Since COVID began in 2020, CPS has given millions of dollars to its schools and their programs. This has resulted in multiple new hires in every school. Along with the hires there are many upgrades to all programs from Football teams to Esports teams. We are now out of those COVID years and we need to make cuts to make up for the money spent.

Ever since the money cut was announced, many opinions have been thrown all over the place. Most feel as if things cut shouldn’t specifically be student related. One teacher said, “We should focus on cutting any staff that are not student related.” This would make more sense because if you cut kids counselors, teachers and coaches then they would have a harder time succeeding.

As said before, the students are the most important. Another teacher said, “Getting rid of resources for our students is a bad idea. The students make everything what it is.” Some students may even take it upon themselves to leave/abandon their schools due to removing their teachers and coaches.

Some schools have already made a few cuts. A different school district, Mt. Healthy Schools, announced they would cut 30% of their entire staff! This caused a ruckus for a few days actually because this means those teachers just lose their jobs next school year. As the money cut becomes a bigger and bigger topic, more have begun to worry their schools futures are at stake.

The moral of the story is that if we cut off this many people from their jobs schools will collapse. Students will lose motivation, teachers will likely protest, sports will crumble and schools as a whole will be a lot less active than before. The money cut should be well thought out before any important decisions are made.
